Welcome to the American Baptist Men's (ABMen's) page.

The men of First Baptist Church are involved in the life and work of the church. The following is a list of some of our activities and interests.

Cooking - Several of our men like to cook, so we give them an opportunity to hone their skills here at church.

Church Family dinners are held on Wednesdays during the school year, starting at 5:15. Members of the church volunteer to cook the meal. The Men have done three or four meals each year. Chili, ham loaf, and corned beef are some of the favorites prepared by the men. If you would like to cook with us, please let us know.

Valentine's Day dinner prepared by the men has been a popular event. The entire church family participates, with the men cooking all parts of the meal and cleaning up afterwards. It is a lot of fun for everyone.

Several times the men have had a prayer breakfast for the church, again taking care of all the cooking and the cleanup. These are times when the fun of cooking and the spiritual side of being an American Baptist Man come together.

Men's Sunday - Each year there is one Sunday set aside as ABMen's day. All aspects of the Sunday Worship Service are done by the men of the church.

Missions and Baptist Campus Ministry - The men of First Baptist are interested in missions and in working with the WVU students who are a part of Baptist Campus Ministry (BCM) here at our church. The men have conducted a number of fund-raisers to suport the BCM group and their Spring Break mission trips.

Habitat for Humanity - The ABMen of West Virginia have decided that each year they will build a Habitat for Humanity house in the city where the Annual Meeting of the West Virginia Baptist Convention is to be held. All our men are encouraged to participate in this very worthwhile effort.

Church Maintenance - The church building is not the Church of our God - the Church is the people who believe. We men believe that, but we also believe that it is important to keep the Place of Worship in good condition and there are times when our manual labor is needed to do that. We participate (along with many of the women as well) in "work days" several times during the year.

If these few words have raised questions in your mind, call the church at (304) 292-3323 and let someone answer your questions.
